This town is also the birthplace of Jamaica first National Hero, Right Excelent Marcus Mosiah Garvey. Fishing is also a major source of employment in this laid back town. The town of Discovery Bay is next on route. This is where Columbus landed when he first came to the island in 1494. There is even a small park named after him to commemorate his landing. This town is also home to one of the few ports in Jamaica that exports bauxite which is processed to make aluminum. It is also home to the Green Grotto Caves.  Caverns , crevices and sculptures shaped overtime to remind us that nature is unrelenting and dynamic in its quest to effect change stands as monuments. These caves were once homes to Jamaica earliest inhabitants ( The Tainos ) and reminders can be seen throughout the cave. This is a very big cave system. Large stalactites and stalagmites on display as testament to the age of this natural architectural phenomenon. It is home to an underground lake that mirrors the roof of the cave with such clarity and detailed sharpness it boggles the mind and demands a double take.
